If you drive I-65 near the Davidson County line, the new work is hard to miss. Crews began building a diverging diamond interchange this week where I-65 meets US-31W in Goodlettsville. The design has drivers briefly cross to the opposite side of the road, go under the interstate and emerge on their original side.

The widening through Goodlettsville began in March 2025. The interchange is expected to be completed along with the entire widening project.

's Erin Zeigler said it will be a first of its kind in Sumner County. Her pitch: “Instead of sitting at a light, waiting to turn left, we’re eliminating that so we have free-flow traffic.”

  • Work now: grading and drainage, then retaining walls and curbs
  • Expect intermittent interstate closures during construction
  • Third phase: widening I-65 from the Kentucky line to Nashville

Heading that way Nov. 16? Expect a closure for work along the Long Hollow Pike ramp. TDOT is on track to hold off on traffic switches at this interchange until at least January.
