COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Hendersonville police are accepting applications for their annual Santa Cop program that has supported local families and seniors since 1992; families must apply by Dec. 2 to pick up free toys, clothing, food, and grocery gift cards on Dec. 13—donations of new toys are welcome until Dec. 10. This program helps bring holiday cheer and practical support to those in need. Hendersonville Standard
- ➤ A $3,000 donation was presented this month to Mary’s Magical Place in Hendersonville after a memorial game in honor of the late Fire Department Captain Don Dallenbach in April — Nashville Fire Hockey and Hendersonville Firefighters Association Local 3460 matched $1,500 raised at the event. The funds will help maintain the all-inclusive playground and support planned improvements. Hendersonville Standard
- ➤ The Hendersonville Christmas Boat Parade will take place on December 6th at 5:30 p.m. and will start in Drakes Creek—passing Mallard Park's Judges Area before ending at Sander’s Ferry Park as a free event for both spectators and boat owners. Sumner County Source
- ➤ The YMCA of Middle Tennessee is launching several holiday initiatives to help families this winter by collecting items such as coats, toys, and hygiene supplies at locations including Bellevue, Clarksville, Donelson-Hermitage, Downtown, Franklin, Green Hills, Margaret Maddox, and Northwest with deadlines ranging from December 4 through December 19. The Full Circle Program will offer a non-sensory screening of A Charlie Brown Christmas on December 10 from 7-8 p.m.—an inclusive event for participants with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. - ➤ Community Church of Hendersonville will host a tree lighting event on Sunday, November 30 to start the Christmas season. The event will feature a special performance by One Worship Choir inside and then move outside at the Outdoor Ministry Center for hot chocolate, Christmas carols, and tree lighting (381 W Main St). - ➤ The second annual Young Entrepreneur Fair will be held on Saturday, Dec. 6 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at The Collab (132 Maple Row Blvd, Suite 640) in Hendersonville, where more than 15 local young entrepreneurs will showcase handmade products and growing small businesses with free admission. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Hendersonville High School senior Maxine Burton was named to the Southern Division American Choral Directors Association Soprano/Alto Honor Choir—an elite group selected from nearly 1,500 students across 11 states. She will travel to Memphis in March for three days of rehearsals and a featured performance at the ACDA convention. Hendersonville Standard
- ➤ Station Camp High School was named a Special Olympics Tennessee Unified Champion School during its home football game on Oct. 31 — receiving its official banner from Beth Teegarden — and the school celebrated its commitment to inclusion by competing in its first Unified Bowling match with Liberty Creek. - ➤ On Nov. 21, the Tennessee Department of Education named eighteen Sumner County schools Reward Schools for 2025 based on achievement scores, growth, and attendance measures. Sumner County Schools reported a state-leading graduation rate of 97.6 percent—reflecting their commitment to student success. Hendersonville Standard
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ A citizen-led group called Keep Walton Ferry Green is working to preserve a 15-acre plot near Walton Ferry Arboretum to keep the land green and prevent future congestion along Walton Ferry Road. The group has held monthly meetings since September, raised funds to file for nonprofit status, and gathered over 1,700 signatures while exploring conservation easements—steps they say will safeguard the natural habitat for future generations. - ➤ The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency has begun its 2025-26 winter trout stocking program—releasing over 70,000 rainbow trout into more than 40 community locations to offer local anglers close-to-home fishing opportunities. Additional updates on stocking dates and any changes will be announced as the program continues. Sumner County Source

- ➤ The Hendersonville Fire Department held a holiday fire-safety demonstration at SERVPRO of Sumner County on November 19, warning locals about fire hazards from deep frying turkeys and using live Christmas trees. The event simulated a turkey fryer fire and a Christmas tree blaze + stressed safe holiday practices. Hendersonville Standard
