COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Freezing temperatures forced Gallatin’s Stay Warm Shelter to close its warming center this week as volunteers did not show and funds ran low — founder Deborah Alston urged local officials and community members to provide needed support to keep the shelter running after 11 years of service.  NewsChannel 5
  • Comcast supports Westmoreland by giving a $500 grant to a local robotics club and awarding grants to 10 small businesses while offering low-cost Internet plans for qualifying families and workers—helping raise education, healthcare, and job opportunities in the area.  Sumner County Source

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Peter Finzer’s rental RV—on its way to Nashville—had a dangerous overheating problem after a failed wheel replacement by another repair shop. West Power Services quickly found the real issue and arranged safe overnight lodging while it contacted Cruise America for proper repair approval.  Sumner County Source

EDUCATION NEWS

  • BBB of Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky has opened applications for the 2026 Students of Integrity Scholarships—15 high school seniors will earn $1,000 each for showing ethical leadership. Students with a minimum 3.0 GPA in the service area must apply by December 20 and winners will be told in March.  Sumner County Source

SPORTS NEWS

  • Beech Buccaneers and Westmoreland Eagles were the only Sumner County teams to advance after last week's first round wins in the TSSAA playoffs. They will face Munford Cougars and Westview Chargers in the second round, with Blaine Kellar predicting scores of 35-20 and 56-14 respectively.  Hendersonville Standard
  • On November 10th, the Predators lost 6-3 to the Rangers at Madison Square Garden despite Matthew Wood recording his first career hat trick. The team struggled with defensive errors and weak goaltending during the 2-hour, 31-minute contest.  Sumner County Source
  • TSSAA has released the week 2 schedule for high school football playoffs in middle Tennessee, with games planned for Friday, November 14th. The schedule covers ten counties, including Cheatham, Davidson, Maury, Rutherford, Sumner, Wilson + Williamson, and live score updates will be available on game night.  Sumner County Source
