COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Gideon is a 3-year-old Shih Tzu — Poodle mix weighing 18 lbs who is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and needs a home without children with a $300 adoption fee while Tang is a 13-year-old house trained Tabby weighing 15 lbs, neutered and up to date on vaccinations with a $125 adoption fee; both are available at Safe Place for Animals.  Hendersonville Standard
  • Erin Birch stepped down as CEO of United Way of Sumner County on Sept.30 to begin work as Senior Director of Advancement at Volunteer State Community College — a new role reflecting her long commitment to local nonprofits. Interim CEO Amy Ramsey now leads United Way as it continues serving the community.  Hendersonville Standard
  • Today and Saturday, five events are set to take place in and near Sumner County. Music City STOL at Music City Executive Airport in Gallatin will start today with practice sessions and a fundraising concert—Hendersonville is hosting a free Pumpkin Patch Festival on Saturday, and Gallatin will feature a Halloween show at The Palace Theatre along with a craft fair offering free pet adoptions and Friday Night Frights with 23 spooky scenes.  Sumner County Source

CULTURE NEWS

  • The City of Hendersonville will hold a dedication ceremony on October 21 at 10 a.m. in Memorial Park to name the park bridge over Drakes Creek after longtime local residents and Country Music Hall of Fame members The Oak Ridge Boys—honoring their lasting impact on the community. City officials will serve light refreshments following the ceremony.  Hendersonville Standard
  • Jeff Jarrett and The Oak Ridge Boys (longtime Hendersonville residents) will kick off the 2025 PigFest from Oct. 23 to Oct. 25 at Veterans Park. The festival began during the 2020 pandemic to support Christmas4Kids and was organized by local groups.  Hendersonville Standard
  • Gallatin resident Izzy Cring and her family competed on Fox's game show 'The Quiz With Balls'—they went through many audition steps that began in late summer 2024 and took them to Belgium for taping. The episode aired on July 15 and the creative Crings were noted for their teamwork and lively presentation—details that made them stand out.  Hendersonville Standard

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Ellis Middle School hosted The Amazing Shake competition on Sept. 25 where sixth, seventh and eighth graders competed in rounds like the Circle of Doom, Debate Round and Out to Lunch to build social and professional skills. The school said the event helped students gain confidence and prepare to advance to the national challenge at Ron Clark Academy.  Hendersonville Standard

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • After a nine-month moratorium on high density development, the city board held a workshop on development impact fees today to explain that fees from new residential and commercial projects will fund infrastructure upgrades—such as roads, traffic improvements, and park enhancements—instead of routine expenses. Officials said they will continue to review details and meet again on Oct. 14 at City Hall.  Hendersonville Standard

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Sumner County Health Department will offer free flu shots on Tuesday, Oct 21 as part of the statewide Fight Flu prevention effort (director Hal Hendricks said the vaccine is the best way to protect against severe flu outcomes).  Hendersonville Standard

SPORTS NEWS

  • Jonas Reynolds and Austin Schreiner used the new one-time transfer rule to compete in the TSSAA state golf tournament in Sevierville—Reynolds tied for seventh for Station Camp in its first state appearance while Schreiner tied for 17th for Gallatin. Their transfer from home-school settings allowed them to maintain eligibility and pursue college golf opportunities.  Hendersonville Standard
