  • Mayor Jack McCall recalled witnessing the nuclear cooling tower at the Hartsville site implode in just eight seconds—ending nearly 50 years as a local landmark and a reminder of a bygone era.  Hendersonville Standard

ECONOMY NEWS

  • AAA reported that gas prices in Tennessee fell 4 cents last week, with the average now $2.73 per gallon. Rates ranged from $2.62 in Chattanooga — the lowest — to $2.79 in Memphis as lower demand and winter-blend fuel ease costs.  Sumner County Source

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Sumner County Schools announced a unanimous vote to designate October 14 as 'Charlie Kirk Day of Peaceful Civic Discourse' to encourage respectful conversation about civic engagement—no special lessons or assemblies will be held as parents guide discussions outside the classroom.  Sumner County Source

SPORTS NEWS

  • Tennessee beat Mississippi State 41+34 in overtime on September 27 at Davis Wade Stadium when running back DeSean Bishop ran 25 yard for a winning touchdown that improved the Volunteers record to four wins and one loss.  Sumner County Source
  • Titans quarterback Cam Ward said the team played poorly on offense — missing key passes and facing penalties — as the Texans shut them out 26-0 on Sunday; the loss left the Titans 0-4, and they will face the Cardinals next week.  Sumner County Source
  • Ellis won its third straight Sumner County middle school girls soccer championship on Monday when it beat Station Camp 3-1 at Station Camp High School—snapping an 18-game win streak and earning its ninth county title overall. Mary Sloan assisted on early scores as coach Brian Flanary led the Cougars to victory.  Hendersonville Standard
  • After a shutout in Houston on Sunday, the Tennessee Titans have tallied only 10 explosive plays in four games, with rookie quarterback Cam Ward responsible for eight that generated 203 yards — the team is taking a cautious approach to protect him. Coach Brian Callahan said the Titans will activate running back Tyjae Spears for practice this week — while also adjusting their practice squad to improve the passing game.  Hendersonville Standard
