GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Aug.29, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth honored the Hendersonville Police Department at city hall for receiving the 2025 ESGR Freedom Award that acknowledges employer support for military reserve employees. Hegseth, a former National Guardsman (with Tennessee ties), said the award reflects strong backing for reserve members balancing police work with military duty.  Sumner County Source
  • The Hendersonville Board of Mayor and Aldermen approved an ordinance that lets experienced police and fire officers from other cities start at higher pay—Chief John L. Jones and Mayor Jamie Clary said the policy will help solve staffing shortages and keep pension benefits intact.  NewsChannel 5

  • Week 3 of high school football in Middle Tennessee will have most games played on Sept 5 while a few are set for Thursday—teams from Cannon, Cheatham, Davidson, Dickson, Maury, Robertson, Rutherford, Sumner, Wilson, and Williamson counties will face off.   • JPII sharpshooting senior guard Osby Cavin committed to the University of Montevallo on Sept. 3—he had offers from Cumberland, Montevallo and Trevecca—and announced his decision on Instagram.  Hendersonville Standard
  • The Sumner County sports schedule details girls soccer and volleyball games through Sept. 10. Local teams feature a girls soccer match—Station Camp at Hendersonville—at 7 p.m. today and more contests later this week.  Hendersonville Standard
