ECONOMY NEWS

  • Last week, gas prices in almost every metro area in Tennessee increased while the state's average reached $2.77 and Knoxville remained steady. The national average rose three cents to $3.16 — a rate that is still almost 20 cents lower than last year.  Hendersonville Standard

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Titans are expected to place running back Tyjae Spears on short-term injured reserve after he suffered a high ankle sprain in the preseason opener—this move will cost him the first four games while making him eligible to return before the week five game against the Cardinals. The team will finalize the decision when they set their 53-man roster on Tuesday at 3 p.m. CT.  Hendersonville Standard
  • Titans quarterback Cam Ward led a ninety yard drive at Nissan Stadium that helped his team secure a twenty three to thirteen win over the Vikings in the preseason finale. The Titans ended the game with a two to one record and will cut rosters to fifty three players by Tuesday as they prepare for the regular season opener on September 7.  Sumner County Source
  • Sycamore Middle School head girls soccer coach Kurt Thompson said his Lady Knights hold a 3—0 record with wins at Burns, Innovation Academy, and Harpeth, each by a 9—0 score. The team will play at Fairview Middle on August 28 and will compete in a state postseason tournament for the first time along with conference games in September.  Hendersonville Standard
  • The Tennessee Titans cut 16 players on Monday to trim their 91-man training camp roster to the 53 required for the regular season—wide receiver Jha’Quan Jackson and safety Julius Wood were among the notable releases, and NFL clubs must meet the roster limit by Tuesday at 3 p.m. CT.  Hendersonville Standard
