ECONOMY NEWS

  • AAA reported on August 18th that Tennessee’s average gas price fell to $2.74—three cents lower than last week and nearly 30 cents lower than one year ago. Stephanie Milani said prices have stayed in the $2.70s for over six weeks and will likely drop gradually as autumn nears.  Sumner County Source

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • TDOT will close a section of Old Shackle Island Road at the railroad crossing from today until Friday, August 22 so crews can complete temporary widening and relocate the crossing arms—detours will allow businesses south of the railroad to access the area using State Route 6 and Main Street.  Sumner County Source

SPORTS NEWS

  • During Monday's practice in near triple-digit heat, rookie quarterback Cam Ward got into a shoving match with teammate Jeffery Simmons after celebrating a touchdown pass in a red zone drill, and Simmons was escorted off by media relations. Teammates said the incident shows a fierce competitive spirit and stressed the need for safe play in practice.  Hendersonville Standard
  • The JPII football team added six transfer players after TSSAA allowed students to move schools for academic, social and mental health needs — head coach Roc Batten said the new players, including Isaiah Batten, Sam Bowers, Trent Campbell, Kaiden Redmond, Pierce Thigpen and Trevon Tyson, will help the team balance sports and studies. These transfers follow last March’s eligibility rule change meant to support student well-being.  Hendersonville Standard
