  • Nonprofits such as Habitat for Humanity and Stay Warm Shelter help people without homes in Sumner County by providing food, shelter, and assistance with documents.   • Residents in Sumner County can attend five events this weekend with MACC's 7th Annual Veterans Art Exhibition at Monthaven Arts & Cultural Center on August 17th from 2 to 5 p.m., a Nashville SC Watch Party at Half Batch Brewing & Cantrell’s Food Truck at 3 p.m. on August 17th, a Rock Castle Summer Songwriter Series at Sanders Ferry Park on August 16th from 5 to 9 p.m., a Middle Tennessee Food Truck Festival at Veterans Park on August 16th from 4 to 8 p.m., and a Free Dental Day at NorthField Church in Gallatin on August 16th from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Sumner County Source

  • Hendersonville artist Chuck Creasy teamed with longtime friend David Wright to create the album art for the new Luggnutts album 'A Century of Pickin’' and their work will be featured at the Aug. 16 release party 'Songs and Stories at Historic Stonewall.' The event will include live music, food trucks, a biscuit-eating contest, and a student-led documentary—marking decades of their creative partnership.  Hendersonville Standard

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Sumner County’s General Operations Committee met on Aug. 4 to plan the preservation of Latimer House—a historic home next to Liberty Creek schools—with architects set to submit proposals by Aug. 25. Neighbors urged that a $500,000 bequest be used to restore the property and build a park that honors its past.  Hendersonville Standard
  • The Hendersonville Planning Commission deferred voting on an 18-lot subdivision on Caldwell Drive submitted by JLR Property Holdings LLC—staff requested more details on the equestrian easement and flood study—and will review the proposal at its September meeting.  Hendersonville Standard

  • The Sumner Center at NorthField Church will host its fourth annual Free Dental Day on Saturday, Aug. 16th from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. with volunteer dentists from Hope Smiles offering free cleanings and extractions on a first-come—first-served basis.  Hendersonville Standard

SPORTS NEWS

  • Green Hill football coach Josh Crouch revamped the team’s non-region schedule after last season’s heavy playoff losses so the small school will face tougher Class 6A teams this fall—Beech, Page, Ravenwood and a season opener on Oct. 3 against Glencliff that will prepare them for playoff challenges.  Hendersonville Standard
