- ➤ Last week, a newborn was surrendered using the Safe Haven Baby Box at Station #5 at 1166 Forest Retreat Road and promptly taken into custody by the Hendersonville Fire Department—local officials say the box, installed in April 2024, gives mothers in crisis a safe surrender option under the Tennessee Safe Haven law. - ➤ The Humane Society of Sumner County urgently requested standup fans and pine pellets to help keep animals cool during the heat – the shelter has received nearly $3,000 in online donations since its call for emergency help in late July. Hendersonville Standard
- ➤ Habitat for Humanity’s CEO Kate Ritchie was named the 2025 Outstanding Leader of the Year by Habitat Tennessee, and she said her work rebuilding the organization after COVID helped bring local churches and neighbors together for home building and repair programs. Hendersonville Standard
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Tennessee Board of Education is considering eliminating the requirement for high school students to study a foreign language for two years — Board Chair Bob Eby said students could gain more time for math, science or computers. The board will vote on the proposal before this school year ends and if approved, the change will take effect in the 2026—2027 school year. Hendersonville Standard
