COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On July 10, Hendersonville native Donoven Rice, known as the SnackWrap Guy, celebrated McDonald's SnackWrap return after his viral TikTok campaign drew nearly 500,000 views + local officials honored his efforts with a proclamation from Mayor Jamie Clary. He said he will now focus on comedy.  Hendersonville Standard
  • On Saturday, July 19 from 9 a.m. until noon, law enforcement agencies in Hendersonville and Gallatin hosted a 'Stuff the Cruiser' school supply drive at local Walmart events that distributed hundreds of backpacks, crayons and pencils to over 100 families in need. Sumner County Sheriff Eric Craddock and local police coordinated the drive—an effort that helped ease the burden on families now that free supplies from ESSER funds have ended.  Hendersonville Standard
  • The Sumner County Family YMCA has named Jaquell Fitts (who works at Aspect Software) and Cal Gentry (owner of Civil Land Company) as Community Impact Award winners for their volunteer work during the 2024 fiscal year. They have helped the Y by supporting its daily operations and planning for future growth.  Hendersonville Standard
  • Moose Ann is a young female Whippet mix that is spayed and up to date on vaccinations with an adoption fee of $250, while Abilene is a 2-year-old domestic short hair that is house trained, spayed, and vaccinated with a fee of $125; both are ready for adoption at Safe Place for Animals.  Hendersonville Standard

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Hendersonville high school students and educators took part in the 18th exchange to Tsuru, Japan, where they experienced school life and local culture. A report on the trip will be held at the Community Room in the Hendersonville Public Library (140 Saundersville Road) on Saturday, Aug. 2 (11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.).  Hendersonville Standard
  • On July 8, the Junior Service League of Hendersonville awarded its first Hendersonville Community Champion Scholarship to Madelynn Ray, a Liberty Creek graduate recognized for her service and leadership. The $1,000 scholarship was given in partnership with TriStar Hendersonville Medical Center + it will support her nursing studies at the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga starting in the fall.  Hendersonville Standard

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Bill Lee issued official writs for a special election in Tennessee’s 7th District after Rep. Mark Green resigned—this election will fill the vacant U.S. House seat. Secretary of State Tre Hargett announced key deadlines with candidate paperwork due by Aug. 12, the primary scheduled for Oct. 7, and the general election set for Dec. 2.  Hendersonville Standard

SPORTS NEWS

  • Green Hill quarterback Kannon Burroughs committed Thursday afternoon to UT Martin — he chose the program over offers from Eastern Kentucky, Georgia State, Troy and the University of Indianapolis and will join the team next fall after leading his school to an undefeated regular season and a region championship.  Hendersonville Standard
