COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Yesterday, Hendersonville Mayor Jamie Clary visited local resident Donoven Rice—known as The SnackWrap Guy—to honor his campaign to bring back the McDonald’s SnackWrap and presented him with a proclamation naming July 10 as SnackWrap Guy Day. The proclamation praised his creative efforts that captured national attention and boosted local pride.  Sumner County Source

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Hendersonville Fire Department responded at 6:30 a.m. on July 4 to an explosion at a home near Hazelwood Drive where smoke was seen coming from the garage and utilities were secured while the homeowners evacuated safely—Chief Scotty Bush said the fire likely started near a golf cart and was not suspicious.  Hendersonville Standard

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Crye-Leike Realtors donated 50 new Dell keyboards and mice to Sumner County Schools to help modernize classroom technology, and Chris Brown received the equipment from John Woodall, the company’s IT manager.  Hendersonville Standard
  • Hendersonville students earned academic honors for Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 at many colleges—such as Roane State, University of Tampa, and Mississippi State—and received awards like the Dean’s List and President’s List. Their achievements, including selections to honor societies, show a strong academic record in the local community.  Hendersonville Standard

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • During a special meeting on July 2, Sheriff Eric Craddock asked that all step raises above the cost-of-living adjustment be added back into the Sumner County budget for fiscal year 2025–26 to help retain and recruit staff—he noted that this would cost $243,000. Commissioner Matthew Shoaf said a countywide step system with a 3% cost-of-living increase and an extra $500,000 for flexibility is planned, and the Sumner County Commission will vote on the budget on July 28.  Hendersonville Standard
  • On July 1, the Hendersonville Planning Commission deferred its vote on a request to remove a rental restriction from the final development plan for Nearwater Place so that Real Estate Solutions Group can return with a revised proposal — the plan includes 49 vacant townhome units near the Waffle House — and the public hearing remains scheduled.  Hendersonville Standard

SPORTS NEWS

  • Blaine Kellar of Main Street Media of Tennessee was named the Gary Lundy Writer of the Year for Divisions II and III by the Tennessee Sports Writers Association and accepted his award at the Hall of Fame dinner at Cumberland University on July 10. He said the honor reflects the support from his mentors and colleagues — it also celebrates his work covering the sports community in Sumner and Davidson counties.  Hendersonville Standard
