EDUCATION NEWS

  • Teacher Chris Clutter and former fourth-grade students from Clyde Riggs, who have loved Harry Potter since the 2001-02 school year, recently visited London to tour movie sites and historical landmarks (including the Warner Bros. Studio Tour and the Orangery at Kensington Palace). Their seven-day trip, which covered 50 miles on foot, shows the lasting impact of Clutter’s teaching on the group.  Hendersonville Standard

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett, the Tennessee Hospital Association and the Tennessee Sheriffs’ Association are urging parents to use the free 'Baby in the Back' car hangtag this summer to help prevent heat-related child deaths—600,000 tags have been requested so far—and officials remind drivers to check parked cars before locking them on hot days.  Sumner County Source
  • Gallatin Police Department, Hendersonville Police Department and Sumner County Sheriff’s Office will host a 'Stuff the Cruiser' school supply drive to help students who can no longer get supplies from schools — the drive will run Saturday, July 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Walmart in Gallatin and Hendersonville.  Hendersonville Standard
  • State Representative Johnny Garrett announced on July 8 his campaign to represent Tennessee’s Sixth Congressional District in Congress and stated he will support America First policies if elected. SPORTS NEWS

  • Hendersonville native Michael Barnard — a former Blue Raider standout who won the 2022 CUSA Championship — has been named assistant men's golf coach at Middle Tennessee. He will work under head coach Mark McEntire to mentor student athletes as the team prepares for the season.  Sumner County Source
  • Full Count Rhythm earned a historic sudden-death win when the team played only one half of the 10th to beat the Railroaders 9-8—improving their record to 21-9 after a four-win week—and they will play a doubleheader against the Henderson Flash plus six more games in the next seven days.  Hendersonville Standard
