  • John Gerome (an English teacher with Sumner County Schools) saw a black bear captured on camera near his Bethpage home over Memorial Day weekend; the animal was spotted by a Dollar General on Highway 31 and is believed to have wandered from the Cumberland Plateau.  Hendersonville Standard

CULTURE NEWS

  • Monthaven Arts and Cultural Center is displaying Nashville artist Anne Goetze’s oil paintings that celebrate Tennessee’s diverse environment in the Papillon Gallery until June 29 — a screening of her documentary The Living Land was held on Sunday, June 1.  Hendersonville Standard

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Hendersonville native Kaitlin Koster earned the A. Randolf Shields Award at Maryville College last April for having the best record in the Biology program — she is now looking for a wildlife research technician role and plans to pursue a master’s degree in wildlife biology.  Hendersonville Standard

HEALTH NEWS

  • ALDI voluntarily recalled Casa Mamita Churro Bites Filled with Chocolate Hazelnut Cream (7.05 oz. box) from select stores including Tennessee on June 4 due to a potential undeclared milk allergen that posed a danger to customers with milk allergies or lactose intolerance. Customers who bought the product are advised not to eat it and must return it to any ALDI store for a refund (no receipt needed).  Sumner County Source
