COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Hendersonville High School student Salvatore Napolitano completed his Eagle Scout project by building wheelchair-accessible garden beds at Elevate50 to help seniors. He fundraised supplies and worked with volunteers + Elevate50 executive director Julie Meriwether to restore benches and power-wash the pavement during a two-day project.  Hendersonville Standard

CRIME NEWS

  • A Sumner County jury convicted Michael Charles Dial of rape on May 29 after a two-day trial with 30 minutes of deliberation — he was arrested in April when DNA evidence linked him to the assault of a houseguest and his bond was revoked, with sentencing set for August 4.  Sumner County Source

CULTURE NEWS

  • A ribbon cutting was held on May 22 to open a Free Little Library at Trousdale Place—the historic mansion that once was home to Governor William Trousdale. The library, dedicated to Annie Berry Trousdale, features cabinets, a shelf for books, chairs, and tables in the breezeway and included a donated book from local author Allen Sircy.  Hendersonville Standard

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At its May 20 meeting, the Sumner County School Board approved a raise that increases new teacher salaries from $47,800 to $50,500 for the 2025-26 school year (a $2,700 boost) to meet state law requirements. The board also set aside $250,000 in the 2026 budget for ADA-accessible playground upgrades (aimed at updating older facilities).  Hendersonville Standard

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On May 27, the Hendersonville Board of Mayor and Aldermen passed its 2026 fiscal year budget on first reading, approving employee raises including those for the fire department + they will hold a second reading on June 24 while the measure is expected to lower the city’s unassigned fund balance by about $2 million.  Hendersonville Standard

HEALTH NEWS

  • Environmental specialists from the health department reported that multiple establishments in Sumner County — including pools, restaurants and hotels in Hendersonville — scored a perfect 100 during routine inspections from May 14 to May 29. The scores are posted publicly as part of Tennessee’s health inspection requirements.  Sumner County Source

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Demolition and design work has begun on the former Twitty City site in Hendersonville as Trinity Broadcasting Network moves forward with plans to build a residential + commercial project based on an approved entitlement from January 2024. Frank Amedia said market studies are ongoing and design details will be finalized before the project seeks construction approval by next year.  Hendersonville Standard

SPORTS NEWS

  • Hendersonville’s Addi George and Liberty Creek’s Olivia Tate were named co-MVPs in Sumner County’s first girls flag football season as voted on by coaches last week, with George recording 19 touchdown passes and at least 10 interceptions as a freshman while Tate led her team to a championship win.  Hendersonville Standard
