COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On May 21, the Sumner County Main Street Awards recognized over 300 local businesses, people, places & events during a live YouTube broadcast. All Access Coaching sponsored the event, which celebrated local contributions.  Hendersonville Standard
  • Supporters and pet lovers attended Dismas House’s fifth annual Whiskey, Wine and Whiskers fundraiser at Horton Events on May 16. Guests enjoyed unlimited wines + spirits, lively pet competitions and a silent auction, with proceeds supporting reentry and recovery programs at Dismas House.  Hendersonville Standard

CULTURE NEWS

  • Hendersonville will host the annual Freedom Festival on July 3 from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at Drakes Creek Park. Families can enjoy live music by Uncle Shuffelo and His Haint Hollow Hootenanny and Rockland Road in a free celebration that ends with fireworks at 9 p.m. (weather permitting).  Sumner County Source

ECONOMY NEWS

  • According to AAA, Tennessee gas prices fell five cents over last week to an average of $4.12, but prices remain 39 cents higher than a month ago and $1.37 above last year—trends that may impact drivers in Hendersonville.  Hendersonville Standard

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Highland Academy senior Seth Gagatam earned a full-ride scholarship to Southern Adventist University after scoring high on his ACT with help from teachers and tutoring from On To College. He will study medical laboratory science next school year.  Hendersonville Standard

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Wildlife officials said a new state law now makes it illegal to feed bears to keep people and animals safe. Violators can be fined, and officials warn that feeding bears causes them to lose their natural fear of humans — a move that may lower dangerous encounters.  Hendersonville Standard

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Road work for the Stop 30/Drakes Creek project starts today with closures on Stop 30 Road between Spearpoint Drive and Drakes Creek Road as the Utility District relocates water lines. Drivers should use alternate routes with detours from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. (schedules may change with weather).  Sumner County Source

HEALTH NEWS

  • Health scores released for Sumner County (May 11-26) cover restaurants, hotels, and child care facilities. Inspections include venues in Hendersonville and nearby areas with updates for spots such as Bruster's Ice Cream Mobile and Casa Vieja.  Sumner County Source
  • Health inspectors awarded perfect scores to several food service establishments in Sumner County, including locations in Hendersonville, between May 11 and May 26 — the scores reflected routine safety checks. Inspection reports were posted at each establishment and remain available at county health offices.  Sumner County Source
  • The Department of Health shared Sumner County’s lowest food health scores for May 11 to 26, with Hana Sushi (867 on May 19) and Main Street Bistro (897 on May 19) in Hendersonville posting their inspection reports for public review.  Sumner County Source
