- ➤ This Memorial Day weekend, families can enjoy a variety of events across the region such as the Renaissance Festival in Arrington from May 24 to May 26, free community activities at the Ryman on May 25, and the Hendersonville Hometown Jam on May 26 at Veterans Park — with additional celebrations, sports, and memorial services planned in nearby towns. - ➤ On May 16, community members at Memorial Park gathered to rename the dog park after Samson, the Sumner County Humane Society’s beloved mascot who served for 12 years. Songwriter and volunteer Donna Frost recalled that Samson once returned to the shelter on his own after a failed adoption—leaving a lasting impact on local supporters. Hendersonville Standard
- ➤ The Pilot Club of Sumner County and the Sumner County Health Department will host a free Bicycle Rodeo at Miracle Park on May 31 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.—the event will have five stations to teach bicycle safety and include a raffle drawing for donated bicycles. - ➤ A Hendersonville woman was charged with DUI, vehicular assault and resisting a stop after her car hit a fire truck and a second vehicle on May 15 on State Route 386 exit 8—causing significant damage to Engine 25 and nearly endangering emergency responders—she is set to appear in court on May 30. - ➤ Hendersonville Police are asking for help finding 17-year-old Luke Becker, a white male with brown hair and eyes — he is high functioning autistic and was last seen at his home on the 1000 block of Burnham Circle on May 21st at about 8 p.m. and is believed to have left on foot near midnight. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Sumner County CDC teachers received a $12,000 donation from Every Kid Is A Hero Foundation earlier this month. The funds were raised at a record-breaking event last October and will be divided equally among high school classes so teachers can decide how best to use them. Hendersonville Standard

- ➤ At the Gallatin Chamber breakfast on May 16, state Sen. Ferrell Haile and House Reps. Lamberth, Garrett and Slater discussed local investments such as a $726,000 driver services center planned for Hendersonville and water project funds for Sumner County while reviewing a state budget that totals $59.7 billion. They also addressed debates over immigration enforcement and proposals on school choice and constitutional amendments — issues that may soon affect local families — with plans to move some items forward in the coming legislative sessions.
