COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Cheyenne Goodman, a Hendersonville mom, is preparing sunflowers for the graduation her daughter Reagan—who died from fentanyl poisoning at 16—would have attended today. She hopes the tribute reminds locals to prevent similar losses.  NewsChannel 5
  • Hendersonville Parks and Recreation will host a free fishing rodeo at Memorial Park, beginning with a special session for children with special needs on Friday, June 5 (5-7 p.m.) and continuing with public fishing on Saturday, June 6 (7:30-11 a.m.). Morris Orthodontics donated treats and no pre-registration is required.  Sumner County Source
  • The Tennessee Titans Foundation and Habitat for Humanity teamed up with 130 volunteers to build custom playhouses for local children & families on Monday, May 4 in Gallatin at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore lot.   • Five local events invite residents to enjoy the weekend in Sumner County. Saturday offers a movie night with flower arranging in Gallatin, a free concert and kids workshop in Hendersonville, while Sunday features an outdoor market at Triple Creek Park plus a historic scavenger hunt running through June 30.  Sumner County Source
  • The Parks Department is planning major upgrades to the skate park at Veterans Park and is asking residents for feedback via a survey that closes today — a $50,000 community donation and a planned bike pump track nearby will support the improvements. CULTURE NEWS

  • Historic Trousdale Place opened its 2026 season in April with an America 250 Celebration that featured planting a Princeton Elm known as the Liberty Tree (inspired by Boston's original), and it will host Fourth of July parade viewing from its front lawn at 183 West Main Street in Gallatin.  Hendersonville Standard
  • The General Jethro Sumner Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution launches a series highlighting Revolutionary War figures tied to Sumner County (beginning with officer William Cage, whose legacy is marked at Cage's Bend along the Cumberland River).  Hendersonville Standard

EDUCATION NEWS

  • National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced the $2,500 Merit Scholarships to winners chosen from over 15,000 finalists. Two local students received awards, including Priscilla Park from Pope Saint John Paul II & one from Merrol Hyde.  Hendersonville Standard
  • Volunteer State Community College celebrated 477 students at its Spring commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 9 (its largest graduating class in 55 years). The event honored graduates aged 18 to 71 and introduced the inaugural Patsy Lawson Teaching Excellence Award.  Hendersonville Standard

SPORTS NEWS

  • Liberty Creek baseball swept Battle Creek in the Class 3A sectional series with a 6-4 win secured by clutch late innings plays on Thursday, earning a second straight state tournament berth. The team will begin its tournament trip Tuesday evening at Blackman or Smyrna High School.  Hendersonville Standard
