COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Legal Aid Society’s Reentry Project helps Tennesseans with criminal records overcome barriers by assisting with driver’s license reinstatement—voting rights restoration and expungement. The nonprofit offers free legal support to clear records and improve access to jobs and community life.  Hendersonville Standard

CRIME NEWS

  • Elvis Shawn Bush, 43, was convicted of felony escape in Sumner County Criminal Court after he and two other inmates left jail, and his sentencing will be set later+ authorities credited the sheriff's office and Gallatin Police Department for their quick capture of the escapees.  Sumner County Source

HEALTH NEWS

  • Tennessee State Veterinarian Dr. Samantha Beaty is warning animal owners to check livestock and pets for signs of New World Screwworm—an invasive pest that can cause painful, non-healing wounds. Owners should inspect their animals regularly and call the veterinarian’s office if they notice any unusual injuries.  Sumner County Source
  • The Sumner County health report from April 29—May 14 showed scores for many local establishments including restaurants, hotels, schools, and tattoo studios in Hendersonville and nearby areas—inspections were routine or follow-up to verify safe practices.  Sumner County Source

SPORTS NEWS

  • Creek Wood High School’s flag football team won its district title and attended TSSAA’s first state invitational (they lost three pool play games including a close 19-18 loss to Walker Valley after a missed two-point conversion). Coach James Smith said the girls worked hard (the experience built a strong foundation for future success).  Hendersonville Standard
  • Creek Wood Softball and Baseball teams won district championships last week. The Lady Red Hawks won a 2-0 shutout against Fairview on Friday—star pitcher Elizabeth Martin struck out nine in seven innings and led the offense with two RBI.  Hendersonville Standard
  • Liberty Creek soccer won the Region 3-A championship with a 2-1 overtime victory over White House Heritage. A key play was a save by Ryker Burgess and a decisive goal by Aiden Hoscheit—helping the team secure their win and set up a sectional match on Saturday evening.  Hendersonville Standard
