EDUCATION NEWS

  • Sumner County Schools reported that the football stadium construction in Hendersonville and Beech remained on track for the season even though no finish dates were set. The update was given on April 29 after media requests and follows repairs made after 2023 damage — the projects are planned for use in the 2025 football season starting Aug.22.  Hendersonville Standard

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Brood XIV periodical cicadas are emerging across Tennessee as soil temperatures reach 64°F during their 17-year cycle. Experts warn that the high numbers may harm young trees and advise postponing spring planting—local gardeners should take precautions.  Sumner County Source

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Officer Danny Ellis of the Hendersonville Police passed away late Monday, April 28 after a long battle with cancer—he served the community for over 25 years and was a valued member of the patrol and boat units. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 7 at Long Hollow Baptist Church with visitation on Tuesday, May 6 at Sumner Funeral and Cremation Lakeside.  Sumner County Source

  • Play It Again Sports in Brentwood and Hendersonville is offering 15% off bikes from May 1st to 31st to help locals upgrade their rides.   • The Titans have officially signed veteran receiver Tyler Lockett, who spent 10 seasons with the Seahawks and ranks second in team history behind Steve Largent in receptions and yards. Lockett, a three-time winner of the Steve Largent Award and former Pro Bowler, will bring his experience and leadership to the team.  Sumner County Source
  • Liberty Creek flag football team beat Green Hill 13-6 in the District 9 championship on April 30 at Mt. Juliet’s Roger Perry Field as a strong defense kept the score low—both teams advanced to next week's state invitational. Liberty Creek will play East Robertson on Wednesday, May 7 at 3:15 p.m. on Field 1 while Green Hill will compete in Pool D.  Hendersonville Standard
