  • Cheryl Lewis, a Tennessee writer, said the Narrow Gate Foundation helps troubled young men through an eight-month program that includes camping, hiking on the Appalachian Trail and mentoring—tools that build life skills. She awarded the charity a $100 gift after winning an essay contest to help further support its work.  Hendersonville Standard

CRIME NEWS

  • On April 18 at 8:45 p.m., Hendersonville Police responded to a shooting call at the 100 Block of Nokes Drive when a 911 report detailed a man firing multiple shots in a parking lot and arrested Daryl Henry Campbell Jr, 24, who faced charges—Attempted 1st Degree Murder, Aggravated Assault, Reckless Endangerment, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon during the Commission of a Dangerous Felony, and Simple Possession.  Sumner County Source
  • A 24-year-old man—Daryl Henry Campbell Jr—is charged with attempted first-degree murder after firing multiple shots in a Hendersonville parking lot on April 18 at 8:45 p.m.; police arrested him a short distance from the scene and he has been held on a $6 million bond.  The Tennessean

CULTURE NEWS

  • Highland Academy’s drama club presented the play “Just One More — The Faith of Desmond Doss” on April 11, honoring the World War II hero who received the Medal of Honor as a combat medic. The play, written by Autumn Grant, featured senior Aleksandar Bibulovic as Doss and junior Karisa Hood as Dorothy, showcasing the hero’s faith and courage during the war.  Hendersonville Standard
  • The Williamson County Parks and Recreation Department will host the 39th Annual Tennessee Renaissance Festival from May 3 to 26 at Castle Park in Arrington, where visitors can enjoy artisans, jousts, and special role-playing events. The festival runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends plus Memorial Day with adult tickets starting at $25.  Sumner County Source

  • Caleb Cook resigned from White House basketball on Thursday and on Monday afternoon accepted an assistant coaching position at Liberty Creek under his mentor Seth Massey (he will also serve as Director of Football Operations) to allow more time with his family.  Hendersonville Standard
  • The NFL Draft starts Thursday in Green Bay and the Titans—set to have the first overall pick—will start their offseason program today at Ascension Saint Thomas Sports Park. The program is voluntary except for a required minicamp from June 10 to 12 and will include six optional team practices from May 27 to June 5 plus an early rookie camp next month.  Sumner County Source
