COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Dexter, a 9-year-old cattle dog mix weighing 60 pounds, and TC, a 5-year-old domestic short hair weighing 12 pounds, are available for adoption from Safe Place for Animals—both pets are house trained, neutered, and up to date on vaccinations. Their adoption fees are $250 for Dexter and $125 for TC.  Hendersonville Standard

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On March 22, a fire at the Hickory Run apartment complex at 1080 West Main Street in Hendersonville displaced two families while causing no injuries—firefighters quickly controlled the blaze that began near the first-floor fireplace amid windy conditions and coordinated with police and the American Red Cross to relocate residents.  Hendersonville Standard

CULTURE NEWS

  • At Monthaven Arts and Cultural Center (a historic mansion turned art museum), the 49th annual James B. Hawkins Sumner County Student Art Show is now open with nearly 150 artworks by middle and high school students from more than 15 local schools. The event runs from March 28 to April 13 and will award cash prizes and scholarships, with an opening reception and awards ceremony on Sunday, April 13 (middle school from 1 to 2 p.m. and high school from 3 to 4 p.m.).  Hendersonville Standard
  • Sumner County Museum will celebrate its 50th anniversary on April 12 with a Barn Dance at the Historic Cragfont Barn at 200 Cragfont Road in Castalian Springs from 5-9 p.m., featuring live music by The Luggnutts Bluegrass Band and dancing help from local teacher Kim Meiss. Tickets include a BBQ dinner, dessert and historical exhibits while proceeds will support museum preservation projects.  Hendersonville Standard
  • Recently, the General Jethro Sumner Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution held its election of new officers to lead the chapter into America’s Semiquincentennial celebrations. Incoming Regent Debra Maggart and her team will assume office on July 1 — they plan to advance programs in historic preservation, education and patriotism.  Hendersonville Standard

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Sumner County Schools will introduce a traveling inflatable planetarium that offers space lessons and will visit schools beginning April 28. The portable dome—donated by Rotary Clubs for $10,000—aligns with state science standards to spark student curiosity.  Hendersonville Standard

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On April 3rd, severe weather led to a tornado watch and life threatening flood warnings across many Middle Tennessee counties—flood advisories were issued for the Cumberland River at Omohundro Water Plant and Whites Creek at Bordeaux. Multiple flash flood warnings were also in place as rising river stages and heavy rain caused hazardous road conditions and flooding of local properties.  Sumner County Source

SPORTS NEWS

  • Michael Bunting joined the Predators last month and in his second game on March 15 he got into a scuffle when he grabbed a Los Angeles forward’s stick — a move that set the tone for his play. He has scored three goals and recorded one assist in 12 games while working to boost the team for next season after his recent appendectomy.  Hendersonville Standard
