COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Several local events are scheduled this weekend in Sumner County and nearby areas including Gallatin and Hendersonville. Options range from a Valentine’s Day Dinner and musical party on Saturday to a Welcome Wreath class and chili cookoff on Sunday — tickets and reservations are required for some events.  Sumner County Source
  • During Winter Storm Fern on Jan. 24, the Hendersonville Church of God hosted a warming shelter from Monday through Thursday for residents facing power outages, while K.Town Korean BBQ + Hot Pot donated 400 meals to community members and first responders.  Hendersonville Standard

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Sumner County Museum hosted a sold-out Night at the Museum on Feb. 7, with local residents portraying historical figures, and it will soon debut a Stories of Sumner video series and update its exhibit at the Clerk’s Office by April 1 (more details coming).  Hendersonville Standard

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Volunteer State Community College will host its annual Women Empowering Education Luncheon on March 27, 2026 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of the Lake Church in Hendersonville to support scholarships for students and promote access to education.  Hendersonville Standard
  • Madeline Robertson, a student at Merrol Hyde Magnet School, earned the 'Best of the Best' award for her acrylic painting 'Spoons' at the 18th annual Middle Tennessee Regional Student Art Exhibition during the recent artist reception.  Hendersonville Standard

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • TEMA & NWS have launched Severe Weather Awareness Week from Feb. 15 to 21 to help residents prepare for spring storms with daily safety messages and tips. The initiative includes a weather event at Trevecca University on Feb. 21 for hands-on preparedness info.  Sumner County Source

HEALTH NEWS

  • Blood Assurance highlights the need for more African American donors to help local patients with sickle cell disease. The nonprofit will hold blood drives in Gallatin on Feb. 18 at Welch College and Feb. 25 at NHC Place Sumner & is offering a $100 e-gift card drawing for donations.  Hendersonville Standard
  • TriStar Hendersonville Medical Center has been named among America’s 100 Best Hospitals by Healthgrades, ranking it in the top two percent nationwide. The award also honors three other TriStar facilities for delivering high-quality care in the region.  Hendersonville Standard

SPORTS NEWS

  • World Bass Enterprises has announced The Champions bass fishing tournament when 50 top anglers will compete for a $3 million purse from Oct. 28-Nov. 1 at Sanders Ferry Park. The event will also feature an expo with food, contests, and live music.  Hendersonville Standard
  • Wilson Central tailback Chaz Martin signed with the University of the Cumberlands on Thursday at a ceremony held in the Wildcats’ indoor practice facility. The record-setting senior set multiple rushing records last fall (including a new single-game record) and chose the Patriots over a NAIA offer from Lindsey Wilson.  Hendersonville Standard
