ECONOMY NEWS

  • University of Tennessee Extension’s consumer economics team led by Professor Ann Berry found that the cost of a typical Thanksgiving dinner in Tennessee has increased by 10.5% to an average of $128.50—rising prices for turkey, dairy and eggs due to avian influenza and other factors are driving the change, and families are advised to plan ahead as better deals may come closer to the holiday.  Hendersonville Standard
  • AAA reported gas prices in Tennessee are now averaging $2.64 per gallon—a four-cent drop ahead of the busy Thanksgiving travel week. Spokeswoman Megan Cooper said if prices remain low, drivers will likely experience rates not seen since 2020—offering some relief before holiday travel.  Sumner County Source

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, the Hendersonville Police Department is launching its Santa Cop Program to help local families in need this holiday season. Residents can apply by submitting a filled PDF or emailing the department and may donate new toys, cash, checks, or gift cards before December 2.  Sumner County Source

HEALTH NEWS

  • The health department reported that the lowest food health scores from November 10 to 25 were 897 at Casa Vieja in Hendersonville, 935 at El Tequila in Gallatin, 947 at Hana Sushi in Hendersonville, and 941 at Casa Roja in Gallatin—scores posted following routine inspections.  Sumner County Source
  • Sumner County health inspectors awarded several food service spots in Hendersonville perfect scores of 100 during routine checks from November 10th to 25th — a sign that these establishments met required food safety standards. Reports are posted for public viewing at local health department offices.  Sumner County Source

SPORTS NEWS

  • Middle Tennessee high school football playoffs will continue this week as Division I semifinal games will be played on November 28 while Division II championship games will take place in Chattanooga from December 4—6.  Sumner County Source
  • County coaches chose the 2025 All-Sumner County girls soccer team from four area schools after a very successful season. The roster includes award winners for offense, defense and goalkeeping and Coach Andrew Fish—who led Liberty Creek to a Class AA state championship and earned Coach of the Year honors.  Hendersonville Standard
  • Station Camp quarterback Colton Overbey broke the county record with 5,259 yards during the Class 5A playoffs—he became Sumner County’s all-time leading passer as a junior. He set new personal and school marks this season and said he will keep working to improve his game.  Hendersonville Standard
