- ➤ Beth and Troy Putman of Lebanon have finished a 24-page not-for-profit children’s book (Sir Sean: A Knight’s Tale of Courage) to honor their late son who fought Ewing Sarcoma and to help children facing tough times; they plan to share the book with youngsters in emergency rooms and on oncology floors. Local artist Sarah Grace Wright provided the illustrations as the project aims to offer hope to kids in difficult situations. Hendersonville Standard
- ➤ 19-year-old Isaias Vargas, who is diagnosed with autism and plays several instruments, will perform at the Palace Theatre in Gallatin on Nov. 15—audiences have described his act as magical and uplifting. Hendersonville Standard

- ➤ A man from Hendersonville won $1 million in the Tennessee Lottery’s instant-ticket game The Fastest Road to $1 Million from Oct. 26 to Nov. 1 — part of a total prize pool of $21,370,083; he said it was hard to believe his win. Hendersonville Standard
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Amid a government shutdown, SNAP benefits were expected to freeze on November 1 and the USDA planned to use $4.65 billion in contingency funds to cover 50% of current allotments—leaving no funds for new applicants. Local groups in Hendersonville, including VFW Post 9851, the Samaritan Association, and Feed Sumner Food Bank, are stepping in with food boxes and weekly pantries to help residents and veterans facing hunger. - ➤ Friendship Christian defeated Tipton-Rosemark Academy 49 to 7 in its TSSAA Division II-A playoff opener on Thursday with strong plays from quarterback Blake Waldorf and running back Jayden McGowan. The Commanders will travel to Floyd Stadium today — on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University — to face top-seeded PCA in the next playoff round. Hendersonville Standard
- ➤ Green Hill (9-2) won its first Class 6A playoff game with a 42-14 victory over Smyrna on Thursday after scoring 35 consecutive points. The Hawks will face Science Hill next Friday in Mt. Juliet, and junior running back Zach Cartwright (159 yards) led the effort. Hendersonville Standard
- ➤ The Tennessee high school football playoffs have begun with games played on November 6 and today. Scores for Thursday games were posted and Friday results will be posted tonight — covering matchups in counties such as Cannon, Cheatham, and Davidson. Sumner County Source
- ➤ Davidson Academy defended its Division II-A boys cross country championship on Thursday at Shelby Farms Park in Memphis—senior Luke Troutt finished third in 16 minutes, 27 seconds while the Wharton twins placed fourth and fifth, overcoming a team-wide sickness to secure a 60-point win over University School of Nashville. - ➤ After a 3-1 loss to the Flyers at Bridgestone Arena, Predators center Ryan O’Reilly said he played poorly and his errors led to Nashville’s sixth defeat in seven games. Hendersonville Standard
