COMMUNITY NEWS

  • This weekend in Sumner County, residents can attend five events including the Black Cat Bash on Gallatin Square on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.—a vintage market with local food—and a villain-themed show at Centerstage in Gallatin starting at 6 p.m. Hendersonville hosts an annual cemetery tour fundraiser with a soup and chili supper from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.—and a free shredding day with snow cones from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.—while Friday Night Frights in Gallatin offers 17 acres of themed horror on select evenings.  Sumner County Source
  • Foster Families Assistance Network, which began in a garage in 2016 and opened a West Main Street resource center in 2022, will move into a new 3,000‑square‑foot facility at 13 Industrial Park Drive, Suite 100 on Oct. 21—its grand opening is set for Nov. 7—to expand programs like foster parent support and financial literacy for teens.  Hendersonville Standard
  • Friends of the Atwoods: A Night of Giving is scheduled for November 18 at 6 p.m. at 3rd — Lindsley; the benefit will help longtime Hendersonville residents Roxane and Tim Atwood who face ongoing spine surgery complications — including a recent stroke for Roxane.  Hendersonville Standard
  • The Hendersonville Morning Rotary Club added two new members+Paul Vandekamp and Debra Rice+ today. Paul, a long‑time Sumner County resident who has worked for 33 years at Ally Financial, joins the club as it expands its volunteer efforts.  Hendersonville Standard

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Hendersonville native Pruitt Coffey took ownership of Nashville's first glamping party rental, Happy Campers, in September—he plans to expand its luxury slumber party and backyard glamping experiences for customers across Middle Tennessee.  Hendersonville Standard

CULTURE NEWS

  • Vol State Community College is showcasing its Fine Arts Division with an art exhibition called 'Emerging Visions' on Oct. 18th from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Gallatin Public Library, and it will hold five free music recitals at its SRB Humanities Building starting with a guitar recital on Oct. 20th at 6:30 p.m. and continuing through Dec. 4th.  Hendersonville Standard
  • A new book titled 'Cottontown, Tennessee: The Jewel of Sumner County' highlights local history by recounting how Walter Liggett—Cottontown's first banjo player on the Opry Stage 100 years ago and a grocery peddler—shaped the town's musical heritage alongside other notable residents like T. Tommy Cutrer and a renowned wildlife artist.  Hendersonville Standard

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Hendersonville Parks and Recreation installed two solar-powered emergency call boxes on Sanders Ferry Greenway—an idea sparked by a local running club member. The boxes connect directly to 911 and send the location to emergency services to boost safety along the wooded trail.  Hendersonville Standard
  • The Tennessee Department of Transportation is widening and realigning the intersection at Walton Ferry Road, Old Shackle Island Road and West Main Street by replacing the current offset with a four-leg intersection with traffic signals. Daily closures on Walton Ferry Road from Campus Drive to Harlan Avenue run 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. from Oct. 13 to Oct. 24 as crews install utilities and a new water main crossing—projected to complete in May 2027.  Hendersonville Standard
  • On October 9, the Hendersonville Police Department honored Lieutenant Barry Russell, who retired after 38 years of service. Chief James L. Jones presented him with a plaque — other officers also gave him a bronze police officer figurine.  Hendersonville Standard

HEALTH NEWS

  • The YMCA’s After Breast Cancer Program has celebrated 25 years in Middle Tennessee and offers breast cancer survivors a free 16-week course that teaches safe exercise+nutrition and lymphedema care. Program Director Susan Davenport said survivors feel strong community support and she hopes the program will grow to help more women in the six counties it serves.  Hendersonville Standard
