CRIME NEWS

  • Deputy Jerry Soares served as a School Resource Officer at Gallatin High School and died Monday following a medical emergency — the Sumner County Sheriff’s Office said his over 30 years of service made a lasting impact and that funeral details will be released.  Sumner County Source

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Tennessee fell by six cents last week to an average of $2.78 per gallon — the rate remains four cents higher than one month and one year ago, according to AAA.  Sumner County Source

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency confirmed that hemorrhagic disease is increasing among white-tailed deer in eight counties, including Franklin, Giles, Humphreys, Lewis, Shelby, Sumner, Wayne and Williamson due to heavy rains in the spring and dry conditions later. TWRA said the disease, spread by biting midges and not harmful to people, will continue to be monitored.  Sumner County Source

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Tennessee Department of Transportation announced that Walton Ferry Road between Campus Drive and Harlan Avenue will have partial closures daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. from Monday, Sept. 22 until Friday, Sept. 26 to install new water main crossings and realign the intersection at Walton Ferry and Old Shackle Island Road — flaggers and a detour will be provided for local traffic.  Hendersonville Standard

SPORTS NEWS

  • Last week, the Cheatham Middle Lady Musketeers traveled to Pleasant View to face the Sycamore Middle Lady Knights in a close volleyball match—where the Lady Knights won the first set 25–21, the Musketeers took the second set 25–18 and the Knights secured the final set 15–12. The Lady Knights also clinched the junior varsity match in two sets.  Hendersonville Standard
