COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Hendersonville High School community honors former teacher and coach Steve Reynolds, who founded the wrestling team and coached tennis and baseball until he retired in 2011, as he passed away on Aug. 9. A memorial service will be held Sept. 13 at 11 a.m. at Pavillion 8 in Sanders Ferry Park.  Hendersonville Standard
  • On August 14, more than 200 community members gathered at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Hendersonville for the Community Impact Breakfast hosted by United Way of Sumner County — where CEO Erin Birch and local leaders honored donors, volunteers and business partners for their support in improving lives across the county.  Hendersonville Standard
  • The YMCA of Sumner County is preparing to mark its milestone anniversary as YMCAs across Middle Tennessee celebrate 150 years—Hendersonville’s Board of Mayor and Aldermen approved temporary banners on the Main Street bridge over Drakes Creek on Aug. 12 to commemorate the occasion.  Hendersonville Standard
  • Rosie Donoho, a native to the area who retired as a hospice leader in 2023, now devotes her time to volunteering with Aveanna, the Chamber of Commerce, and other community groups, and she was honored with a distinguished service award in 2024. She also enjoys gardening and spending time with her two puppies—these passions reflect her lifelong dedication to helping others in Hendersonville.  Hendersonville Standard

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Several schools in the NES area have received a $655,000 robotics award from TVA and Bicentennial Volunteers, Inc. to start or improve robotics programs—Hendersonville High School and Ellis Middle School are among the recipients.  Hendersonville Standard

SPORTS NEWS

  • Josef Newgarden, a Hendersonville native, hosted Karting for a Cause at K1 Speed in Nashville on Thursday to raise funds for SeriousFun Children’s Network and Wags and Walks—he won his second race and will qualify on Saturday before racing in Lebanon on Sunday.  Hendersonville Standard
  • David’s Week 2 column shares his football predictions for Wilson County high school games—favoring Friendship Christian over Fayetteville, a tight win for Green Hill over Page, and a win for Lebanon and Wilson Central; he noted standout players like Blake Waldorf and Jayden McGowan and used recent performances to guide his forecasts.
