- ➤ Residents and visitors can join a summer scavenger hunt organized by Hendersonville’s communications department to explore local spots like the public library, greenways, and music events. The hunt runs until kids return to school and encourages participants to use a printable checklist and share photos—helping everyone discover the town’s hidden gems. Hendersonville Standard
- ➤ On June 5, state officials, local politicians and residents gathered at Sanders Ferry Park to open the new Sanders Ferry Park Bill Dance Signature Boat Ramp and three courtesy docks. Hendersonville officials say the project is part of a $15 million state plan that will bring more visitors and lasting benefits to our lake community — a boost for residents now and for future generations. - ➤ Monthaven Arts and Cultural Center will host the Canvas — Stone exhibit featuring over 65 works by painter Kathryn Dettwiller and sculptor Somers Randolph—the event will run from June 21 to July 27 at MACC. Hendersonville Standard
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Hendersonville native Walker Smith and Gallatin native Izzy Hollman have been named as Haslam Leadership Scholars at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. The program—started in 2008 to honor the Haslam family—gives a scholarship that covers tuition, fees and room and board. Hendersonville Standard
- ➤ Students from Hendersonville and Merrol Hyde were named National Merit Scholarship winners last week by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. The awards range from $500 to $2,000 each year for up to four years and were given to over 2,900 finalists who plan to attend sponsor colleges. Hendersonville Standard
- ➤ The Hendersonville Public Library summer reading program started on June 1 and runs until July 26—drawing over 1,000 children, 78 teens and 25 adults to participate in reading challenges and prize activities. Participants get a goodie bag at signup and earn raffle tickets and rewards as they complete levels—library staff expect the program to grow with community involvement. Hendersonville Standard
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ A USDA survey shows that Hendersonville’s deer numbers are lower than in 2023, according to Jerald Barrett at the May 27 board meeting. The survey—done twice a year—will serve as a baseline while the city updates its deer dashboard and hunting list to help reduce human-deer conflicts. Hendersonville Standard
