COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Owen’s Flowers and Produce celebrated its one-year at the Conway Twitty Lane location with a ribbon-cutting on May 1 and a grand opening on May 2. The family business, begun by John and Virginia Owen and now led by Trey Owen and his wife, hosts events like Food Truck Fridays.  Hendersonville Standard

CULTURE NEWS

  • The 50th annual James B. Hawkins Student Art Show was held at Monthaven Arts and Cultural Center, where young local artists displayed creative work — sparking community pride.  Hendersonville Standard
  • Registration for the Sumner County Hidden History Passport Program opened May 1, offering families a summer adventure to explore local landmarks and earn prizes ($10 per passport). Passport pickup starts May 20 at the county museum with full stops to be completed by July 31.  Sumner County Source
  • The free Hendersonville Arts Festival will run Saturday, May 9 from 10am — 5pm and Sunday, May 10 from 11am — 5pm at Sanders Ferry Park and will feature both local and national artisans, food trucks and vendors offering gourmet treats and craft cocktails.  Sumner County Source

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Last month, Liberty Creek Middle School hosted Sumner County’s first chess tournament where 40 students competed in three categories (beginner, intermediate, advanced) and earned medals for top placements. The event showcased strong sportsmanship, strategy, and school pride.  Hendersonville Standard
  • Fourteen elementary students from Gene Brown, Guild and Madison Creek Elementary were selected to perform in the Tennessee Treble All-State Honors Choir in April. Their achievement highlights the talent nurtured by local schools.  Hendersonville Standard

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Aaron, a blind 6-year-old lab mix, and Sasha, a 15-year-old domestic short hair, are featured as Pets of the Week and available for adoption at local shelters. Their adoption fees are $250 for Aaron and $125 for Sasha + both pets are up to date on vaccinations and house trained.  Hendersonville Standard

SPORTS NEWS

  • Beech soccer won a second consecutive District 12-AAA championship with a 2-1 victory over Hendersonville at Russ Plummer Stadium on Thursday, ending a long rivalry trend. The team will host Cane Ridge in the region tournament’s first round.  Hendersonville Standard
  • Station Camp captured the Sumner County Middle School Boys Soccer championship on May 4 by defeating Ellis in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 tie following regulation and double overtime – the win marks their fifth straight title with Austin Fair earning MVP honors.  Hendersonville Standard
  • Green Hill clinched its fourth straight district championship when seniors Avary Stockwell and Chezney Whipker hit back-to-back power plays in a seven-run third inning, sparking a 16-0 win over Hendersonville. The team advanced in the tournament with a victory that local fans will remember.  Hendersonville Standard
  • The Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association announced Thursday its finalists for the Mookie Betts Mr. Baseball award (including Bo Holloway of CPA among local representatives across six classifications) to honor the season’s most valuable player as recognized by coaches.  Hendersonville Standard
  • More than 400 athletes competed at the Sumner & Macon County Special Olympics Spring Games on May 1 at Station Camp High School’s football field. The community event featured an opening ceremony and athlete parade that united families, volunteers, and local officials.  Hendersonville Standard
