COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Heritage Park — located at 119 East Drive on the Indian Lake peninsula — has entered a five- to six-month design phase following community meetings and surveys. The park will include biking and hiking trails, an inclusive playground, and a welcome center but will not have sports fields as the city prepares to transfer the hillside portion from the Friends of Indian Lake Peninsula.  Hendersonville Standard
  • Barry Rice has helped Vietnam veterans in Sumner County for over 10 years and stepped down as head of the state council last year after his Stage 4 lung cancer diagnosis—today he is in full remission and still inspires neighbors with his book The Power and Blessings of a Sunrise and many food giveaway events.  Hendersonville Standard

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Hallmark Hyundai of Hendersonville opened a new dealership today built to Hyundai’s Global Dealership Space Identity 2.0 standards — the $8 million project included a $6.5 million building and a $2.5 million parking expansion.  Hendersonville Standard

CRIME NEWS

  • Hendersonville police arrested Daryl Henry Campbell Jr. on Friday, April 18 after a suspect fired multiple shots at the Breadbox gas station on the corner of Nokes Drive and Walton Ferry Road, and he fled on foot while no one was injured though a nearby residence later showed a bullet hole.  Hendersonville Standard

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced winners on April 22, including Liliana Daniel of Hendersonville High School and Alyssa Maddern of Merrol Hyde Magnet School. About 830 high school seniors received corporate-sponsored awards from 124 companies.  Hendersonville Standard
  • Sumner County Schools unveiled its new Coordinated School Health Activity Bus at Vena Stuart Elementary on April 17 (part of a community event) sponsored by Highpoint Health with Ascension Saint Thomas, with educators, community members, and district leaders attending the ribbon-cutting ceremony. The mobile PE unit is stocked with equipment for classes, recess, and special events (like a gaga ball pit, disc golf, and oversized yard games) and can be reserved by schools as needed.  Hendersonville Standard

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Tuesday, April 22, firefighters and supporters filled the meeting room as city leaders, including Mayor Jamie Clary, addressed concerns about pay differences with the police and possible retaliation against fire chief Scotty Bush—firefighters urged that their hard work deserves fair treatment. City officials promised to review the pay structure—vowing to work for balance and better pay for first responders.  Hendersonville Standard
  • Sumner County completed a public survey for its 2050 Comprehensive Land Use Plan between January 17 and March 14, receiving 3,973 responses that showed residents ranked traffic and congestion as their top concern and favored zoning restrictions to limit new development. County Director of Planning and Engineering Josh Suddath said the county will work with the planning commission for further outreach—keeping costs low by using an in-house ARG-GIS project.  Hendersonville Standard

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Between Feb. 20th and 26th, 2025, multiple property transfers took place in Sumner County—recording deals in Bethpage, Castalian Springs, Gallatin and Hendersonville. In Hendersonville, one sale exceeded $1.6 million, which shows an active real estate market in the area.  Hendersonville Standard

SPORTS NEWS

  • The 2025 Special Olympics spring games took place on April 17 at the White House football stadium where more than 380 athletes from Sumner and Macon counties competed for medals — marking the largest Area 21 spring games ever. U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn and Gallatin Mayor Paige Brown attended the event that featured an opening parade and a first responder torch run.  Hendersonville Standard
