GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The IRS announced tax relief yesterday for Tennessee individuals and businesses affected by the severe storms that began April 2, giving them extra time until Nov. 3 to file returns and pay taxes. The relief follows a FEMA disaster declaration — it postpones many federal tax deadlines and waives penalties if payments are made on time.  Hendersonville Standard
  • Wilson County law enforcement reported that driver speeds on Highway 109 appear to have dropped after speed limits were reduced earlier this year to 50 mph from Lebanon Road to the Sumner County line and to 45 mph near the I–40 interchange. Officers now give nearly 20 percent more warnings while traffic stops remain steady—measures taken after a fatal crash last year.  Hendersonville Standard

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Department of Health released inspection scores for food service establishments in Sumner County from March 31 to April 14 — the scores cover routine, follow-up and auxiliary inspections and are available for public review at county health department offices. The report includes details for restaurants, tattoo studios and swimming pool facilities.  Sumner County Source

  • Station Camp baseball beat Greenbrier 5-0 on Monday as pitcher Colton Lowery threw a complete-game shutout that limited the Bobcats to five hits in seven innings. The win denied Greenbrier an outright district lead while they now sit half a game behind and have a matchup today at Station Camp.  Hendersonville Standard
  • Beech’s relay team—Eliza Everett, Paige Remillard, Audrey Vaughn and Olivia Gould—broke a 13-year record at the Sumner County track championship on Thursday night by finishing the 3200-meter relay in 10 minutes and five seconds, over 15 seconds faster than the 2012 record.
