COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Jenna Kull, a special education teacher, created calming bags for the Hendersonville police after fundraising with local partners (including the Citizens Police Academy Association) to help officers during stressful calls.  Hendersonville Standard
  • On March 23 at City Hall, Hendersonville honored community volunteers and staff in its Wall of Fame ceremony by awarding Active, Inactive, Employee Service, and Golden Service distinctions; the event celebrated key contributions to the city’s parks system and local recreation programs.  Hendersonville Standard
  • The Sumner County YMCA held a groundbreaking ceremony today for a two-building expansion with a 1,300 sqft poolhouse & a 2,580 sqft pavilion funded by a $600K state grant, $1.08M capital campaign and $50K Rotary pledge; the project will expand childcare and teen programs and finish by yearend.  Hendersonville Standard

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Chamber announced that CEO Barry Young will retire in April to spend more time with his family and travel with his wife. The organization said the change marks a shift toward multi-year planning and growth support, with a replacement yet to be named.  Hendersonville Standard

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Monthaven Arts and Cultural Center is hosting a three-session storytelling workshop with Gwen Caldwell from April 11 to April 25; sessions will run on Saturdays at 10:30 a.m. (1017 Antebellum Circle). Participants will learn essential techniques to uncover and polish their stories.  Sumner County Source

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Following a January settlement, eligible drivers can now register for a free membership to receive up to $15 off two parking visits at participating locations while funding lasts & while holding a Tennessee license plate; the discount program is part of a $2.25 million allocation to improve pricing transparency.  Sumner County Source

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Over 500 community leaders gathered on March 27 at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church for the annual Volunteer State Community College Women Empowering Education luncheon to support Vol State scholarships (a longstanding program since 2008).  Hendersonville Standard

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Tennessee Highway Safety Office partnered with TDOT & local law enforcement for Operation Hands Free on Wednesday, April 1 to enforce the Hands-Free Law and reduce distracted driving crashes across the region. Officers conducted bus tours with HELP trucks and digital signs to alert drivers.  Sumner County Source
  • The Hendersonville Police Department is accepting applications for a 10-week Citizens Police Academy in partnership with the Citizens Police Academy Association to offer locals a behind-the-scenes look at police work. Residents interested in this unique opportunity should apply soon.  Hendersonville Standard

SPORTS NEWS

  • Ravenwood senior Michael Holt, a Vanderbilt baseball commit, returned strong on Wednesday, Apr. 1 with three hits including a home run against Hendersonville—boosting his team to an 8-2 win and leading with a .379 average and 20 runs as they headed into district play.  Hendersonville Standard
  • Wilson Central defeated Lebanon 16-6 on Thursday in a District 7-4A softball game at Lebanon — Coach Kacey Cardiff substituted pinch-hitter Allie Hood, whose two-run double sparked a rally as the Wildcats tallied 20 hits.  Hendersonville Standard
