  • This weekend, Sumner County & Hendersonville offer family-friendly events: South Water Manor hosts the Spring Fling on Saturday; Unique Specialty Boutique celebrates its anniversary through March 21; Cirque Italia performs a water circus; Hendersonville High holds a craft fair; & Gallatin Little League marks its 50th anniversary.  Sumner County Source
  • After winning a food sculpture competition, TriStar Hendersonville Medical Center donated $10,000 to local organizations combating food insecurity. It split the funds—$5,000 to Hands of Hope Food Pantry in Portland, with the remainder going to Gallatin Shalom Zone, Gallatin Day Care and Gallatin CARES through United Way of Sumner County.  Hendersonville Standard

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Hendersonville's new Chick-fil-A celebrated its grand opening on March 17 on East Main Street. The restaurant now offers extended hours with dine-in, carry-out, and drive-thru service, created 100 jobs, and donated $25,000 to Feeding America (supporting the Shared Table program).  Hendersonville Standard

CULTURE NEWS

  • Poet laureate Kevin Chopson will bring three bands — Better Kenney, The Rusty Nails, and Paradise Daze — to the Palace Theater on Saturday, March 28 at 7 p.m. Tickets cost $20 and the event is co-sponsored by WHIN radio and Ovation Music & Studios.  Hendersonville Standard

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Nannie Berry Elementary began its fifth Apex fundraiser with a pep rally on Tuesday, Mar. 17 as part of a program that has raised over $194,000 in four events. The school will finish with a Fun Run on Thursday, Mar. 26 & hundreds of students are expected to join.  Hendersonville Standard

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Duck River advocates are optimistic after House bill 1510 was recommended by the Agriculture and Natural Resources Subcommittee last Wednesday to protect parts of the river from development. The bill now awaits a full committee vote before moving forward to the Senate and Gov. Bill Lee’s desk.  Hendersonville Standard
  • On March 11, UT Extension of Sumner County and local partners planted 34 trees at Clearview Park and six at Shalom Zone using a $200,000 Urban Forestry Project Grant from the Tennessee Department of Forestry. More plantings are planned at Rucker-Stewart Middle School to boost canopy cover and community education.  Hendersonville Standard

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gabe Hannah was promoted to assistant chief at the Hendersonville Fire Department on March 4. He began his career in 1995 and now plans to improve teamwork and communication with city officials.  Hendersonville Standard

SPORTS NEWS

  • Hendersonville softball Commandos beat Gallatin 16-0 in a four-inning game on Thursday, with strong plays from Maddie Ray McCord and Peyton Kelley. The win boosted their district record to 7 – 1 – 1.  Hendersonville Standard
  • Cutter Sisk scored 33 points and led Beech in the TSSAA Class 4A quarterfinal loss to Bearden at MTSU’s Murphy Center Thursday, March 19. Sisk, reaching a career milestone — the team's second all time leading scorer — brought a near-upset effort that marked a bittersweet sendoff for the Buccaneers.  Hendersonville Standard
