COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Sumner NAACP will host its 30th annual Unity Day March on Monday, Jan. 19 in Gallatin, with festivities beginning at noon at City Hall and concluding at Gallatin High School. Keynote speaker Derrick Jackson and local youth performers will honor Dr. King's legacy—unity in diversity as the free event welcomes community members of all ages.  Hendersonville Standard
  • The Hendersonville Parks & Recreation Department is now accepting nominations for the 2026 Wall of Fame ceremony, which honors outstanding contributors to the parks programs. Nominations must be submitted by 4 p.m. on Jan. 30, and the award ceremony will take place at City Hall on March 23.  Hendersonville Standard

BUSINESS NEWS

  • GameStop closed nine Tennessee stores, with one additional location reported to close, as part of a nationwide plan to reduce its store count by Jan. 31. The closures include sites in (Clarksville, Greeneville, Hermitage, Jackson, Lawrenceburg, Lenoir City, Murfreesboro and Savannah).  Sumner County Source

CULTURE NEWS

  • Thomas Cotton, a Revolutionary War captain, settled in Sumner County and founded Cottontown with a 1,600-acre purchase. His son Moore built the Bridal House — a log home given as a wedding gift — which stands today as a tribute to early settler ingenuity.  Hendersonville Standard
  • Sumner County photographer Stephanie Mullowney Donahoe uses her camera to change perceptions about disabilities by capturing the lives of differently-abled individuals, inspired by raising her daughter Hannah with Down syndrome; she recently published her coffee table photo book, Brand of Human, to highlight these stories (a mission that challenges negative labels).  NewsChannel 5

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At a Tuesday study session, the Sumner County School Board discussed its $4.1M capital projects, including potential renovations at Merrol Hyde Magnet School to update an aging HVAC system (the school dates to the 1970s) and improve classroom layouts; board members said they will review costs at the annual retreat.  Hendersonville Standard

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Tennessee Health Department urges local residents to get their annual flu shot as influenza cases rise, with more activity expected in January and February.  Hendersonville Standard

SPORTS NEWS

  • Nearly 370 runners and walkers participated in the 25th Sumner YMCA Frostbite Races on Dec. 27 in Hendersonville, completing a 10K, 5K, and one-mile fun run on rolling neighborhood streets. The event raised well over $65,000 for local YMCA programs — winners included local runners Preston Webb and Jacob Carrigan.  Hendersonville Standard
